I’ve already shared this story with some of you, but I wanted to share it with all of you! I’ve always been obsessed with cats--their unique personalities, their sassiness and independence, but also their caring nature. Besides, they’re the cutest hairballs of terror ever. So, last year on my 28th birthday, my husband blindfolded me and told me he had a surprise for me. I had no idea what the surprise was, but I could tell we were going somewhere relatively far from our apartment at the time. I honestly thought he was taking me to Lake Mirror in Lakeland, where we had our first official date two years prior. After driving for about 45 minutes, we finally came to a stop and he told me to take the blindfold off. When I opened my eyes and I saw the sign that read “Adoption Center,” I was a bit confused until he said, “you’re getting a kitty!” Needless to say, I immediately started crying. I couldn’t believe I was about to become a “cat mom,” something I’d dreamed about for years. The reason why I was so surprised was because we had already agreed that we would get a pet once we moved to a bigger place. We were living in a one bedroom apartment at the time, and the timing was, in my mind, not feasible. But my hubby is the best and he knew how much becoming a kitty mom would mean to me, especially during that time when I was going through lots of health and work issues. Probably the best part of the whole experience was being able to choose my baby. When I went inside the room where all the kitties were, I immediately saw the cutest, tiny tiger-looking kitty. He kept running all over the place, and when I tried holding him he kept pulling away from me. Once I sat on the floor to pet him, he continued to escape from me :( But then, a little black kitty started climbing on me. He made his way on top of my legs and curled himself like a ball. And when I looked at him, I knew... “He’s the one,” I said to my husband...and the rest is history! The picture above was taken that day after we adopted him. He had just turned eight weeks old. Such a baby!!! Anyway, I like to think Nero chose me as his momma. He somehow knew how much we were going to love him, so he made sure I noticed him. And here are some pictures of my little panther for you guys! For information on why adopting black cats is important, read this article.
